Managing Employee Wellness

A study by the CBI estimated the cost of absence to UK employers was £11.6 billion.

Whilst companies are increasingly aware of the need to proactively manage both short and long-term absenteeism, few have in-house expertise to put this into practice. The need for the expertise is becoming more imperative as the level of absenteeism continues to rise as doe the number of UK and European legislative requirements.

Jelf Wellbeing have recognised this need and have set up two solutions:

HEALTH SUPPORT & PROACTIVE REHABILITATION

This Service is available via a unique solution that ensures employees receive practical help and support while absent, while keeping you fully aware of their progress and that fitness to return to work is achieved at the earliest opportunity.

The service is 'triggered' by a referral from the company after 4 weeks continuous absence. The absent employee is then case managed by a team of nurses who will arrange an independent medical assessment, provide an opinion on the reason of the employee's absence, treatment options, duration and realistic prognosis for return to work.

  • Early intervention for all absences
  • Access to nursing team expertise
  • Full support for employer with management of absence
  • Cost of initial medical assessment
  • Stress Management helpline
  • Stress face-to-face counseling
  • Occupational health viewpoint
  • Rehabilitation support

MEDICAL ASSESSMENT & OPINION

It has been our experience that employer's often need an independent opinion on the reason for the employee's absence, treatment options and a realistic prognosis for their return to work.

This service has been specifically put together to provide this information to the employer.

The individual medical assessment includes an occupational health viewpoint on the impact of the illness on the employee and their ability to return to work.

To achieve the highest level of benefit we would recommend the assessment takes place no later than six weeks of continuous absence.

The report and recommendations are sent within 10 working days of the assessment date.

This service is available to all Jelf Wellbeing clients.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

We advise all companies to have a formal approach to occupational health which should include the following:

  • Workplace assessment
  • Work station assessment
  • Workplace requirements - UK and European directives
  • Pre-employment procedure
  • Response to a health situation procedure

In order to determine a company's occupational health requirements a site visit is required where a review and recommendations will be provided.
